psone lcd, matrox and pstrip problems

I know there are a million threads on this, but for some reason I am having strange problems, could be the newest power strip.

I have tried this using remote desktop and tighvnc, trying to configure powerstrip for the psone lcd vga mod using a Matrox Mystique pci card. Everytime I change the resolution in custom resolutions to the 640x480i and change it appropriately with the timings, I choose add resolution, and it will ask to restart windows before I can even get to the advanced timings. If I choose cancel and close out of that screen it goes back to 1024 or 800x600. If I choose restart windows without going to the advanced timings, it always restarts back into 1024 or 800, like the device did not take the resolution. I tried this with both windows default matrox drivers, and specific xp matrox drivers.

When I add resolution using tight vnc, tightvnc exits and says session close. I never get anything more than rolling blue or green lines on the lcd.

I think I have tried every which way to get powerstrip to take this resolution, and it just will not stick.

If somebody who has had success with this and the matrox card, could possibly list the exact steps and the order that you did them in, along with the order or detaching the regular monitor and switching to the lcd, I would be forever in debt. Im getting quite frustrated after buying both things, and not even get it to work in the slightest bit.

btw, I used the standard matrox mystique timings that has been going around the forums here and a Bit-tech for the timings, well, atleast for the custom resolutions, since i cant even keep it in 640x480 long enough to get into advanced timings (when in advanced timings, after adding the resolution and closing out or restarting, the advanced timings are always stuck on the default resolution, and cannot be changed)

I read alot about this mod and did it last week. The lcd would not work properly witha 6800gt so I picked up a mystique on ebay like you.

Does your lcd turn on when you power your pc? Mine didnt and I had to wire 5v power to it from a tranny on the back.

Once I did that, I installed powerstrip, changed the res to 640x480i, made sure interlaced and csync were checked. To adjust the timings I just used the up/down arrows next to the pixel clock until some sort of image appeared. Took 1 minute tops to tweek it. Below is a pic. The rocker switch above the lcd is to turn it on/off when not in use.
Feel free to ask any questions. Btw I'm using the matrox mystique 1064sg. some mystiques dont work from what I've read.

The thing is tho, is that when I click on the arcade setting, and I click add resolution, it either tells me to restart, or takes, and when I go back to the advanced timings page, it is back to 1024x768, with no way to change it.

I do appreciate your help and will prob talk to you a bit more. I did tiddlers version with the splicing into the cable, kinda wish I had done the solder ver.

And yes, as soon as I plug my lcd up, it comes on (backlight).

EDIT: Maybe its the cable I used? Does yours have the large "lump" thing in the cable near the connector? I guess this wouldnt matter tho, because people made their own cables from cat5.

this might help. did you use both wires 13 and 14 on the vga? I only use wire 13(Hsync/Csync). When I first connected it I used both 13 and 14 and it didnt work. I followed the article on bit-tech. Its worth a try using just wire 13. My vga cable has the lump on it, I'm sure thats not the problem though.

    Got any messengers?

Im cavitycr33p on all the main 3

I disconnected 14, still, all I get is rolling faint gray lines over black screen.

You can tell when things change, because the screen will flash, etc.

How did you hook up the ground? All the other vga pins?

the only ground I connected is the red, green and blue video grounds to pin 8 on the lcd. I think the lines are a sign that it works, you have to mess with the timings more. will it accept 640x480i now?

How did you adjust the timings? My regular monitor wont accept the resolution, and all I get is lines on the psone lcd, so I cant see anything to set the timings with.

CavityCr33p I am pretty much about were you are. I can get a lot of lines scrolling every which way but no image and nothing I can make out as even part of an image. The scrolling changes as I change the timing in powerstrip but still know image. I wired mine the same way as you did. I hope we can find a solution. I want to check my wiring, but I don't have a diagram that tells me which wire going to the lcd is what. I hope I didn"t get something mixed up after I cut the wires next to the psone plug. I know this is not much help but at least you are not alone.

My card WILL not switch to 640x480, I can add the resolution, and as soon as I close and go back to the advanced timings, its back to 1024. I have tried windows default drivers, matrox drivers, 2 different pstrips, same thing.

Im tempted to reformat and install 98 just to see if it will go that low.
