    Just joined

Newbee just joined after a friends recommendation to this site hello everyone and thanxs Simon. I'm looking to build a incar pc for use only as a Integrated Sat/nav, playing MP3s and music vids

Ok thinking of purchasing the following:-

LinITX 7" Widescreen VGA/Composite Monitor with Touchscreen (10 watts)
    Seagate 40GB Momentus 5400 rpm 2.5" Drive - ST94011A (? Watts)
    2.5" Hard Drive IDE adapter
    Morex 60W InCar PSU Set

I have already got a EPIA 800 mini =ITX motherboard ( ? Watts) and a HAICOM PS2 GPS reciever ( ? Watts) IF I puchase the above equipment would the 60 Watt PSU be enough to power everything as I want to build a small compact in car PC so it does'nt drain the battery and is light weight.
TBH i'm not too sure about the hard drive differences 2.5" or 3.5" is the power difference minimal ? Also is the screen ok the illum is 400cd/m2
Am also gonna need a integrated front package to run everything SAT/NAV mp3's and the music vids via the touch screen, I don't particully want to have a keyboard or mouse. Will be uploading data via front USB port only.

Edit:- because the GPS is PS2 can I suse a PS2 to USB connector will this work

    many thanxs

Use the search box located in the blue menu bar at the top of the forum. Search on terms "power calculators". You can use them to figure out if your system will need more than 60 watts or not.

welcome n00b - I would highly suggest learning how to use that search function as it will become your best friend....you will learn a LOT more from seraching for your answers than from just posting questions that have been asked numerous times.

    again, welcome and have fun!

be sure to take lots of build pics as well as finished product pictures and post them all! We like to see inprogress pictures!

OK thanxs for the help guys but for some reason the search sill does not come up with any links for the "calculator". Yep I will certainly take pics of the progress Need to master fibreglassing thou as my last attempt was poor but the colour coding was good. Think i'll proably buy the kit anyway if it does draw too much power will up it for a 90 or 150 W supply

Funny, for some reason when *I* used the search function and input the terms "power calculators", I got 43 results. One of which was titled "How do I determine Power Consumption of Components?". In that thread was a link to a power calculator.

    Try it. You'll like it.

Well thats strange, when I entered the "power calculators" same as before it only brought up my posts nothing else. But as soon as I selected "Advanced search" at the bottom on the window then "search now" it functions correctly now that is strange.
