    Keep my HU?

i tried to read the sticky " HOW TO: Get sound from PC to Car Stereo / Amp", and didn`t seem to find an answer...
i am about to put in an carpc, and wonder if i can keep my HU?
My HU(Panasonic QC-C7300N) is connectet to my frontspeakers (Hertz 165), and my amp(Boss 600W/4*150w) is running my two rear speakers(2*Boxter 6*9) and the last two outputs on my amp are crossed/bridged for the sub(10" Boxter)...
how am i suppose to connect my HU/Amp/speakers to a 5.1 soundcard???
The reason to why i wanna keep my HU is, that i would like to keep the radio, and its a really good HU i just bought a couple of months ago ;-)

As i see it, i need another Amp with 5 or 6 outputs and skip the radio/HU, or am i wrong?? I hope i`m wrong, coz i really like my HU....

Keep your head unit, get an Aux input adapter for it and run 2 channels out of your PC. To run 5.1 you'll need to change your whole system around, and add the center channel. That's the easiest way, and you probably won't notice any problems because almost anything you run from the computer will sound fine with 2 channel sound.

This HU has an aux in (front), connect the amp for the rear speakers (rear), and the bass to the sub. So you'll need three sets of RCA wires. No center channel though.

generally 5.1 is over rated in a car environment ... especially if you will mainly be listening to music ... and certainly if you won't have a center channel.

which ever soundcard you get just run it in 2 speaker mode and take that to your head unit's AUX In..

5.1 is real taxing on the CPU and doesn't give much benefit.

I'll agree with shakes completely, that's why I asked about it...

in all reality - 5.1 in a car is pretty much pointless. There is so much road noise to begin with....even if you have 200 sq. ft. of the extreme sound deadening stuff in your ride (like we do in the truck) you will still have some mad road noise - just not as bad. That road noise will throw everything off. Not to mention your seating position....and if you focus the stage on the driver for 5.1 then all of your passangers will be off....and what's the point of focusing the stage on the driver when the driver is driving in the irst place? Not like they will have the ability to watch the movie while driving....then if you focus it on the passangers...which ones?

just too many issues with it IMO.

other than the bling factor, to be able to say you have it...

    Its possible without HU

    Hi all,

i am at planing for now, but i am confused about the Audio. I have a 2004 BMW 330Ci Convertible and i want to take my HU out, its that possible? Can i take the audio signal from my soundcard and plug it direct in the car? ( ).

    Thanks, Viko

yes it's possible to remove the head unit (I think it's better that way) but you won't be able to run straight from the sound card to the speakers.

you will need an amp of some sorts. how much power you need depends on your speakers and how loud you want it to be ... but you will need an amp either way.

another thing, you need to know the resistance of your speaker coils. If they are something wierd like 6Ohm you will need a special amp and will be better off replacing the speakers. If they are 4Ohm or 8Ohm you'll be ok.
