I am interested in knowing peoples opinions and how they are powering them too
I was just wondering who's using an EPIA P4 mobo and how you are powering them? And if there are any major things i need to know before i go get one. Ive read up a lot on them but you never really know if youre gonna hit any trouble until youve used something. Any comments of actual in use experience/concerns would be greatly appreciated.
And yes i have searhced but i want to know from the people using them what they think and if there is any likes or dislikes about that setup.

and once again the pilot shows us why he rocks harder than most.
But isnt that too much power, why do you need such a power hungry setup, why not put a 1 ghz chip in so you can play with yourself while youre waiting for a song to load.
Oh sorry got stuck in "im gonna **** on your dreams" mode, and "carPC's have to be done this way and this way only" mode. Just venting cuz i got bashed for even thinking of putting anything other than an EPIA board with a via chipset in.
But if the pilot says it can be done and done well than i shall do it. After all anyone with 2 p4 mainframes in a car should know what the hell they are doing. Am i right?
how much do those boards cost?

The reason i want a p4 is for gamining, Set up your car pc how you want and grow some tougher skin, don't follow trend

Sooner or later VIA will release a board that has some real power and then everyone on the VIA bandwaggon will be wanting to upgrade.
I think most people pick the VIA boards is for power consumption, noise, and heat reasons, and the fact that it gives you a larger choice of PSU.
My old M9000 was pretty hopeless with anything that got CPU intensive, and DVD's used to skip a beat too. What people seem to forget is that although they are perfectly adequate for DVD, GPS, MP3, DivX etc, they do fall over when stretched to performing say, GPS, OBD2, & MP3 at the same time. Well thats my experience anyway.

The reason i have a m10k is becasue of the reasons you said... size, heat, power
If i upgrade the mothereboard/processor i will have upgrade power supply's aswell. it is an expensive upgrade but worth it in my opinion.

how would the MII 12000 compare, would that allow you to do multiple things at a time (other than dvd, who watches a dvd and uses GPS at the same time)
I agree that EPIA has boards that will have some real power soon.

But until that comes out i dont see the reason for running a 1ghz processor when i could run a P4 or even get a micro atx board and run a pentium M or even an athlon 64. With Gigabytes new board

i could even under clock the voltage settings of the athlon if power consumption became an issue. This board is 240x240mm instead of the 170x170 that epia has. Not a huge difference in size for doing a custom install. Plus when windows longhorn comes out everyone is gonna want a 64 bit processor anyways.
I wasnt trying to bash anyone that uses the EPIA boards. If it fits your needs then it is the way to go. I just dont like the them. I like the size but they dont offer enough for me. They do make a P4 board though that i am very interested in and i wanted to know who else out there was using one and if there was anything i should know before going this route.
Just trying to do what everyone says us NEWBIES should do an research before we do something stupid or seriously **** up some expensive hardware.
Sorry if i offended anyone
With my scenereo size is the main issue 240mm wont cut it. Plain and simple it just wont fit where i wanted to put it or else i would have surely gone the p4 route.
