best soundcard

i just hooked my carputer up, and i had two probs

1) terrible hum- even when comp is off. (yes im using a 350 watt inverter, no my power and audio cables were not close, no i didnt ground the computer case or inverter case). its prolly my ground setup, so im not too worried about it.

what i AM worried about:

2) audio output from my sb live card was very weak. even with all levels maxed out. maybe my headunit has an overly unsensetive aux in?? its an aiwa 4x50watt, it has an 1/8" front aux input.

i dont mind shelling out some $$ for a better sound card- i did some searching, looks like the creative line is preffered by members. how will an old audigy do?? i dont really need 5.1 do i? i just have the factory 4 speaker setup, i dont think my HU is capable of those crazy surround setups. what other brand/model soundcards are note worthy?

Don't the head units have a line level seting for the AUX IN?
I belive you can set that level +/- 6dB so the sound level is consistent with the other modes (CD/Radio/etc...)

Check Aiwa's site for your HU... they have manuals onilne (in case yours is lost).

What is the model number of the HU?

not sure, cant get to my car right now. it doesnt have mp3 capability, but it will play cd-rws. its 4x50, has rotary volume on left, only has two colors- red or blue lights. front slot load, ill have to check it in a few hours when i get home.

From Aiwa's site..... check page 3, left hand side.

If you want 5.1 you will probably have to bypass the HU alltogether and go with an amp. You will lose your Radio function though.
