Ok I recently aquired a PowerMac G3 32ram/24X CD-ROM/ZIP/ETHERNET/USB Ports and a Bad HD...
I'm gonna change the HD and upgrade the RAM and change to a DVD...
but all in all I'm wondering if this will make a good base for a carputer...gonna hook it up to a Lilput 7" Touchscreen...
I'd like to do Mp3, DVD, and eventually GPS...
wondering what else I'm gonna need?
it's going into a 2004 Scion xB and the Head Unit will be a Pioneer DEH-MP7500 and I'm going to move that into the Cubbie underneath the AC controls
It looks good except what are you going to use to power it?
thats what I need some help with...
Probably have to go with an inverter. Carnetix is releasing the P1900, supposedly by the end of April. That might work for you.
Check the Mac Car section threads for info on using the Mac in the car. The biggest disadvantage is no equally sophisticated GPS software as on the PC (Route 66 is the main Mac option).
Otherwise, the Mac Mini has generated a lot of excitement and there are a couple of front ends that are under development, so that part ought to get worked out in the near future.
yeah the Route 66 doesnt look all that sophisticated...but I think it'll do for right now I 'm hopeful that with the MacMini there will be renewed GPS support...also might integrate an XMPCR but we'll see cuz the Pioneer head unit already has the Pioneer XM Add-On
this carnetix how much is it gonna set me back?
