here's a guide for changing your dash light color, but has all the steps you should need...

I am still in the planning stages of my carputer, and have a kinda stupid question. How do I remove my dashboard? I know that a lot of the time you simply just pull and it will pop off, but I just got a new Scion tC, and I want to be sure not to break anything. Can anyone give me advice on exactly how to do it? Also does anyone know if the M10K has a shutdown/startup controller built in, or do I need to purchase one?

Don't have a Scion, but from someone who's torn down most of their car including the dash many times, I'd advise you to look for the factory service manuals on ebay either in print or cd-rom. For most of the cars I see, they are under $50USD and well worth it. I paid around that for mine and it was basically three phone books size volumes of almost everything you'd ever want or need to know. Just invaluable.
My other suggestion is to find out how much something costs before you start mucking with it. I've gotten to the point where I'll do it anyway regardless of price, but it made me feel at ease with my first ventures.
I don't have the answer for you, but I highly suggest you do a google on
"scion tc forums"
and then, look through a bunch of those forums to see which one(s) deal with electronics, etc. so that they might have information for your particular car.
You may get an answer here, but still, in a community where pretty much everyone has the same car, you'll get a better answer.
Good luck
EDIT: damnit, I need to stop doing the thing where I open the thread in a new window, then go off and do whatever for 30 minutes, and then come back and type a response without thinking that two other people gave very good responses already.
either way, I'm not deleting what I wrote![]()
If you're afraid of breaking something then maybe a carputer isn't for you![]()

I found a link to my car's dash info by searching these forums for my car and "dash remove." Your car is pretty popular, especially for modding, so it shouldnt be hard to find, just follow wizwuza's advice, it'll work.
Carputer status: [-*---------]
Im thinking laptop...
I bought the factory manual and while it was about $50, it was worth the expense. Some of the stuff I would have busted trying to get it apart.
