Setup Help

I'm still waiting for the rest of my setup to come in the mail, but for now I have the motherboard, psu, and screen, and I just wanted to play around with it so I grabbed a spare harddrive and dvd rom. I'm using a epia m10000 board and I'm trying to setup windows on the hd, the bios screen loads fine but it won't boot to the windows setup at all. This is my first time ever building a computer so I have no idea if I'm missing a step or something, the bios is setup to boot from the dvd drive first so I don't know what else to do, please help me.

Does it try to boot from the CD-Rom ? Do you see any flashing light coming from the CD-Rom drive when the bios is starting ? To enter Windows XP setup, it should be written something like:

Booting from CD-ROM:
Press any key to enter setup...

for about 3seconds. Then if you press a key you'll enter the setup.

Do you get any error message ?
Do you have an original Windows CD ? Some copied CDs might not have a boot sector on them..

its a copy, is there any way to get the boot sector on a copy

if your using the lcd touchscreen, you need to set it up in the bios first for it to work past the bios screen, at least i had to for my setup, m1000 epia, lilliput combo

Did you go in the bios and make your primary boot device the cd-rom?

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot, to change the boot device, you need to go in your bios setup (press delete or the button it tells you when your at the black screen when you boot your computer).

Than you go in Advance BIOS Features(or something like this) (2nd or third on the left).

Than look for First/Second/Third Boot other device, or Primary Boot device, or something similar.

Than choose the cd-rom drive (should be d: since you have one hard drive, could be something else, like e: or f: etc...)

After That go back to the start and do save and exit.

Last of all, Its gonna ask you if you want to boot from the cd-room, press enter or space or any other button. Setup starts after this.

Make sure the burnt cd works on another system. If it does use that CD Drive to load Windows. I'm pretty sure its the CD and/or Drive that is causing the problem.

on my normal computer it doesn't load to the windows setup either, but I know I've used it before and its worked, but this is a different copy of the disk. is there any file that should be on there to make it load from the start?

I have the same problem with my cds. It will work max two times then it'll stop working. I just reburn the original and it should work again.

the original is about 1250 miles from here, i had my bro just put the contents of it in a rar file and send it to me then i made a cd from it, guess ill have to have him mail the original
