EPIA does not boot - Only fans come on
Did a search on this, found a reference but no solutions.
Have a problem with my carputer and I hope someone in here can help:
MB: Mini ITX EPIA-V 1.0G in a Morex 3688 case
Optical: Slim DVD drive (tray type)
HD: 60G 7,200 RPM 2.5 inch
USBs: GPS + Lilliput
PS also feeds lilliput and a mini USB hub when in the car.
The problem I am having is that during start-up the PC fans come on, the HD also spins, but that is it. The computer does not boot, not even the bios screen, or the beep that you hear as soon as it starts to boot. If I cut the power off and turn it back on a number of times, or hold the reset button down for a few seconds and release and repeat a few times, it will eventually boot. This happens all the time, except a few times when I was turning the PC on after a few hours of shutdown. But even that is intermittent.
So I tested the following (without lilliput or the hub attached to PS)
1- Checked power supply: All rails have proper power (3.0v, 4.9v, 11.8v)
2- Checked HD: It spins. Replaced it with another and problem did not go away.
3- Checked all power and IDE cables. They look good and connections are tight.
4- Checked “switch on” pins on the power supply. Upon startup, the pins short out emulating momentary switch – I believe that is the way it is supposed to be.
5- Manually shorted the “switch on” pins on the mother board. It works for shutdown but Problem still not solved for start-up.
6- Checked RAM by removing and reinstalling - No change
7- Replaced the PS PIC with the updated one - No change
I think it is safe to say that the source of the problem is either the motherboard or the bios. I do have to add that when I had the original Power Supply and ITPS I never had this problem. It was also okay after I switched to M1-ATX for a little while. The problem seem to have started when I upgraded the HD from a 20G 2.5 inch to 60G 2.5 but I don’t think it is the HD because I put the old one back in and I still have the same problem. I think I have done something that is causing this. At first it was a "once in a while" thing. Now it is almost all the time.
With the description what do you guys think? Is it the motherboard? Is it the bios? Is it the RAM? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
