Then speak to a lawyer then, or if you want some free advice go and ask the police sergeant/inspector on duty at your local police station to find out for you.

Anyway, how you you know what's fact and what's not fact from what people say on here? If someone said on here 'it's legal to have a movie playing' would you tell the police officer that 'you read on the internet it was ok to do'.

    YES!!! And I would say
"Cool, ain't it officer? Whats that??? Step out of the car? Hang on, let me catch this money shot! I hate having to wait through these stupid story-lines just to see some action."
Now masturbation while driving, that's a different story... I read on the internet that it was illegal.

Im not even gonna argue anymore, obviously people feel its unsafe, and i agree, if the person isnt wise enough to know to watch the road while driving then yes its dangerous, but some people get enjoyment out of the audio that comes from the video. i can have it on and at red lights or whatever glance at it, ytf is everyone talking as if since the video is on i have to be looking at the screen with popcorn and soda while doing 70 thru a parkinglot.

doesnt anyone have a movie that they no all the words too, that they could listen to and be content without seein the video, unless stopped at a light take a few glances?

I think people are really under estimating common sense here.

Yeah... it almost got us killed. Luckily, in that situation WE were the only ones in danger, as we werent in a parking lot, but on the Interstate.

I'm glad you agree, cause I can't keep my eye on the road and argue with you all day.

I'm not one to poke fun at grammar but no = opposite to yes. KNOW is something you have stored in your brain.

You obviously haven't worked in IT?

I'm with you in the sense that I think common sense should ultimately govern the law. However the sad truth is those of us who have 'common sense' are in the minority. The law is there to protect all the other morons from themselves and we often times suffer as a result of it.

However I still don't agree on the video issue. It's a distraction (even for you) whether you want to recognize it or not.

I'm willing to stipulate that it is very dangerous to be doing 70 down the highway with 80% of your concentration on an LCD screen. I don't think any reasonable person would think that that is safe procedure.

That being said, I do occasionally have a passenger for a long distance ride. I don't see that much danger in that person watching a movie on the center console while I drive.

I have not been able to find any documentation (i.e. webpages, legal databases, etc) indicating that the act of having a movie playing within the drivers field of view is illegal in New Jersey. Though it would be, as one person mentioned, a very expensive lagal battle to fight.

May be you have not looked hard enough. Most states have laws saying that any monitor forward of the back of the driver's seat cannot play video of any kind while the car is moving. In-dash DVD players are in-fact required to stop playing when the car is not in park position. I think an industry wide practice should be a rather good hint for you.
I have found you an argument; I am not obliged to find you an understanding.
