    New guy and need ideas

    I am very new to this stuff, and have started reading around the site the last few days. I am wanting to build a carputer that does mp3, navigation, two monitors (one touchscreen in dash and another flip down for rear view mirror). Also I would like to hook it up to be able to see my speedometer and rpm gauge. I am wondering if you guys can give me ideas on what to use, costs, and any other help I can get. I have a 99 Grand Am and will be customizing the dash just to make a screen fit.
    Thanks

    word of warning: your rear view mirror is better than any screen and camera and I suspect that the law wont be too happy if you replace it.

    to put it bluntly:::

    Check out the show off your project thread for ideas and the fabrication thread for pointers

    When you get some ideas, look at the mp3car.com store for price guides.

    Well a few cushions on the seat might help you to see the speedo and rev counter and they're cheaper than a monitor.

    Welcome to the forum. Its a bit difficult to advise you on what to get as carpc specs can vary so much. Have a browse round the forum there's a whole lot of good stuff just waiting for you. Check out the Fabrication and Show off your project threads for ideas. Also have a look at the mp3car shop for a guide on costs or the Classified section to see what stuff goes for.

    Good luck with your project, enjoy the forum but be careful not to stray into 'My Thread'.

    EDIT: Damn you Rickster, you got that in while I was typing this up!

    Haha, thanks, although I'm over 6 feet tall, I just thought it would be a cool idea. I do a lot of visual modifications to my car, so it would add a nice effect, and I'm hoping the people that have already done this will chime in. I will keep searching about this stuff, I was just hoping to get a few ideas from this thread and introduce my ideas.
    Thanks
