Cigarette lighter on the trunk + Opus.

While deciding where I will mount my carputer, today I discovered that there is a cigarette lighter adapter in the trunk/cargo of my CR-V.

I know I want to avoid an inverter, so have decided to go with an Opus. Is it possible for me to take advantage of this cig lighter connector (and/or wires) to connect the Opus, instead of wiring all the way to the front to tap into the battery?

Not sure I'm making sense here... but I believe the cig lighters run at 12V DC, same as battery, no? The lighter says it is rated at 150W (and in the manual it says it is not really meant for a lighter, but instead, to power 'stuff'.)

    Thanks!

    Well that's convenient, huh!
Since you have the documentation for it and know its rated for enough current, it SHOULD be no problem, just tap in. The only issue is whether it provides constant power, whether the car is on or not. I was suprised to learn that despite being a dedicated power plug also, my lighter plug is not powered unless the key is in acc or the car is on. If this is the case with yours also, it defeats the shutdown control of the opus, which isnt cool for you Id imagine.

Damn, you're right. I know for a fact that the front one is only powered with the ignition. I will test the rear one, but I gurantee it will be the same. booooo!!!!

Will have to wire to the front, bummer. That, or reconsider locating the carputer under front passenger seat.
