Somethings got to give mate. why do you need a cd changer if you dont mind me asking? i mean to play a cd here and there is cool, but a changer? dont you want to use ur computer for mp3s?
Im a complete car and computer nerd so a carputer makes sense, but I want to know if I can keep my stock 6 disc changer and all the mess alone and still be able to use it, e.g. some kind of toggle switch from my radio\cd player to my carputer for dvds\mp3s\mame32. I dont know if they make audio toggles like I imagine. P.S. I dont mind having to flip a switch to go back and forth. Thanks for your help.

I know it is possible, but it may or may not be difficult. If you have done you research, you know that the cd changer input for your head unit can (most likely) be used as aux input as an adapter. Presumably, your car doesnt have another aux input, or you wouldnt be asking this. There are adapters for some cars' stereos that have both aux in and cd changer input.and check crutchfield and the like. I couldnt get it in my car, maybe you will be more fortunate. If it isnt there, you could be the first to make one, to your liking, and maybe even share it with others!
Or you could always buy a new stereo that does have this option, but it is hard to find one that is compatible with a stock changer.

Im thinking laptop...
Well the stock unit integrates into displays in my dash for track number etc as well as all my steering wheel controls that I dont want to mess with. (look at a mazda3 interior it may help you understand why). I also like the radio and would want to keep it without investing in another pci card. I have 55 gigs of mp3s so Im only wantiong the stock unit for the look and radio.

Is this your interior?

Its an integrated unit, the changer is in dash with no cartridges, to pull it would be to pull the radio and steering wheel controls... Hence my brain teaser. There is a spot on top of the dash for the lcd etc as they offere navigational systems for it.

Is your OEM stereo Satellite ready? Meaning can hook up sat to it but you don't have it? If so, you can use its input as an aux input. That is what I did in my Murano, then added Satellite to my PC so now I have it all. Checkout www.pac-audio.com to see if their universal interface will work for you

1. you need to either get a complete manual for the existing system and see if it has a spare aux input (as many others have said) if it has then great, there's your in.
If not
2. You cut into the speaker wires, put in a couple of 4PDT relays , have a seperate amp for your Carputer. Then just have either an on/off switch that allows 12V to the relays when you want the PC music through the speaker and doesn't when you want the base stereo or have the PC switch the relays.
