u didn't searched hey ? There is a complete forum section about software and front-ends

Front-ends are softwares that you add to your existing OS. They are built to be easier for touchscreens, and combine multiple programs inside (GPS, Web, Mp3s, videos, etc.). Yes you can shut them down and just use the "regular" PC.

the short answer is yes. Your front end is just an application that runs within your OS. It's kinda the same way PowerDVD or Media Center takes over your entire screen, but you can close them just like any other app and use windows (or mac os or linux or etch-a-sketch) normally

yes most of the front ends have the option to shutdown and hibernate right from the main menu. so you can have the front end run in your startup folder if u like and then can shut it down right from its own menu

    hope this helps

Go to the "FAQ Emporium". There is an explanation of front ends and a link to many of them.
