    Carputer Advice Needed (My Plan)

Hi, I am planning to install a carputer in my Acura Rsx Type-S and I need some advice...I have been planning this out hopefully everything will work out.

    Items to be bought:
    Monster Audio Y-Adapter RCA Male-to-2-Female
    Mp3Car MTS12000 Fully Motorized In-dash VGA TouchScreen
Clarion DXZ655MP has the aux input feature
Monster 3.5mm to Two RCA Male Connector Cable
    and my Laptop

I will be placing my laptop under my passanger seat of my car. I will connect my laptop sound with the Monster 3.5mm to Two RCA Male Connector Cable to the Monster Audio Y-Adapter RCA Male-to-2-Female to connect it to the Clarion DXZ655MP headunit aux in. How will the sound be when I play music when I connect it in this way? I will then connect the Mp3Car MTS12000 Fully Motorized In-dash VGA TouchScreen to the Monster Audio Y-Adapter RCA Male-to-2-Female to connect it to the Clarion DXZ655MP headunit aux in so I will be able to get sound when I use the tv tuner of the Mp3car Indash vga Touchscreen. To power the laptop I will use a convertor to connect it to the ciggarette lighter. Is there any other way to power my laptop so it is hardwired. I know how to ground and what not but what items do I need to have it powered. Also with the monitor how will I power that? Thanks in advance for the advice.

If you format your questions so they are easier to digest and quote you're more likely to get someone to answer.

    Ok sorry...
    Items to be bought:
    Monster Audio Y-Adapter RCA Male-to-2-Female
    Mp3Car MTS12000 Fully Motorized In-dash VGA TouchScreen
Clarion DXZ655MP has the aux input feature
Monster 3.5mm to Two RCA Male Connector Cable
    and my Laptop

    1. Will the quality be bad or stereo quality? Right now in my RSX i have a stock bose system and do not want to lose the clarity

    2. Will that work properly?

    3. To power the laptop I will use a convertor to connect it to the ciggarette lighter. Is there any other way to power my laptop so it is hardwired. I know how to ground and what not but what items do I need to have it powered. Also with the touchscreen monitor how will I power that? Thanks in advance for the advice.

1 I doubt you will be happy with the onboard sound, you may consider a usb soundcard.
2 Id thought it would work, its noise that maybe an issue
3 By using the adaptor it is hardwired , im sure people on this forum have wired them in different ways and using shutdown controllers, you need to search ,
all of your issues have been covered in depth here at one time or another, you maybe waiting a long time for a reply with definitive answers to your questions.
personally i wudnt bother with the monster cable unless its cheap.

1/2) If you connect directly (not with the Y connector, which I assume is to splice 2 inputs into 1) it should be fine. You might need a physical switch or eq/mixer to switch between the two signals, as you might encounter grounding issues for starters, and commonly it's not good practise to mix 2 signals into one simply by merging the cables as it could damage the clarion head unit, and it may not sound very good.

    3) I'm guessing you'll be getting a DC-DC laptop adapter such as the one from here:
    http://linitx.com/product_info.php?products_id=550
It is possible to hard-wire these in, the easiest way would be (if you don't know if you stock wiring is safe to handle the current for long periods of time) to wire in 8AWG live/ground or similar cable with in-line fusing to your own 'distribution box' and either take apart the ciggie lighter plug and hard-wire the wires in, or wire in a cig-lighter socket to your new circuit. Of course make sure you know what you are doing if you are going to do this, if you have a car electrician mate ask them as they will know how to do this no problems. There are various different ways you might need to look at depending on when you want power supply (you may only want power when ignition is on, etc)

If you want startup/shutdown control (laptop in and out of standby on ignition on/off) have a look here:
    Shutdown/Startup Controller for laptop
    New shutdown controller - software
there are more, have a search around

Phatpaul - I've got a 2003 Acura RSX Type-S and I just found this forum the other day - I'm in full newb-learning mode so I'm very interested in what you find as you build/install your carputer. Please keep us (me) updated!

I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but if it's a laptop, why don't you take it out to the car and connect it to see how it sounds?

Can't speak for the car, but here at work I hook up my laptop to a desktop amplifier the same way you are planning to do it for your car. It's not ultimate, but it certainly makes decent music.

If you're not happy with it, get an Audigy USB and use that for the sound output. Should work nicely.
