I think I read it all but I could have missed something...

How do you do that door process? How much did it cost etc etc. Not only would that be pimp, but that would be the coolest mod for my car that served a purpose! I don't know if any of you have ever been in a new monte carlo but christ on a cracker my doors are friggen huge!!! Really cuts down my parking options, its like a Ram 2500 when it comes to parking between cars

    Gagaza;

Excellent photography. I am surprised no one has commented on the quality of the shots. Whoever did it has a great eye. What kind of camera was used?

My first impressions were "It's a freakin' Hyundai...?!!" ... but I really like it. You have done an outstanding job. I am "old school" and have been modding from way back; 12" color TV in my '78 Firebird in 1986 and my big honking CD player and VCR mounted in the trunk (probably added 100 lbs). But foreign cars have come a long way. I am slowly loosing my prejudice towards them.

Hyundaiís are the affordable "muscle" cars for students of the new millennium.

I am still combing this forum; gearing up for a 17Ē LCD - Xbox Ė PC install on my Windstar (easy sell to the wife as she thinks itís for my 3 girls!). *sigh*... from a Firebird to a minivan.

Props to you good man! Have fun with your setup!

BTW; Do you have any shots of the fab process?

What you do to make the doors open vertically is to replace the door hinges. They sell hinges that are made specifically for certain cars/trucks. The hinge kit that I bought came with a wiring harness. Basically it works like an extension cord for the mass of wires that run from the body of the car to the door. My hinges also come with struts that match up to the weight of my doors so that they open and close easily and also stay up in the open position.

Thank you very much. The pictures were taken by me on the day that I bought my camera. It' a Kodak CX 7430. The camera does all the work. I love the way the pictures turned out also, but I thought it was just me.

"It's a freakin' Hyundai...?!!" That's also what I first thought when I was looking at it for the first time. I bought it cuz of the price and looks. Now I absolutely love this car. I wasn't planning on modding it, but the day I brought it home I looked on the net to find out more about the car and came across a picture of one with vertical doors. That was my first mod, and I had the money to do it cuz of the price of the car. That got me addicted.

I don't have pics of my project in progress cuz I bought the camera after I completed my 6 month obsession.
Thank you so much for your comments.

Hey, does anyone have any opinions on my rear view camera set-up?

Okay, no input on my camera install? Guess I'll mount it in keyhole and wire it to my rear view monitor/mirror. Also will install a mini camera into passenger side tailight and wire it to my passenger sunvisor monitor. This should take care of blind spot when changing lanes and backing out.

    Sh** happens and here's proof.

Hereís what happened. I was in the fourth lane of four lanes of standstill rush hour traffic. I had been completely stopped for quite a while. I notice in my rearview that there is a car going full speed in, you guessed it, lane four. Heís approx. 1/8 mile away. I figure heís got lots of time to stop. As he nears I start to worry because he hasnít started to slow down. As he gets closer I really worry because I realize that thereís a chance he wonít be able to stop in time. I start to think of ways to escape a possible collision. Heís too close now for me to back up and give myself enough room to turn out onto the shoulder. I realize Iím stuck. All I can do is to hope he brakes real hard and turn onto the shoulder to avoid hitting me. I applied my emergency brake, stepped down hard on my foot brake. I looked in my rearview again to see what heís going to do. I go into panic mode because of what I see. Heís close enough that I can clearly see his face. Both he and his passenger, where looking somewhere towards lane one. A second before impact he finally looks forward. I closed my eyes, leaned my head against the headrest. I seriously thought I was as gonna die. All I could think of was, ďWhatís gonna happen to my son? Whoís gonna take care of him? EtcÖ..Ē It was scary as hell.

He nailed me without hitting his brake at all. I opened my eyes. I was alive. I looked at my screen and of course it was blank. The impact pushed my car into the car in front of me. And that car hit the car in front of it. Needles to say the car is totaled.

I deal with my loss by keeping things in perspective. My car is dead, but Iím OK.

I take solace in the fact that:
It was my first attempt at modifying a car.
I had a car that came together perfectly.
    Everything was perfect about it.
I built a system on my own
    All the mods worked flawlessly.
I enjoyed every day of driving it.

Iím so glad that I took pictures after I had finished it, and then found this forum to be able show it off. At least others were able to see my project. Hope you liked it.

Hereís more proof that stuff happens. The driver had no insurance and the car wasnít registered to him.

Anyway, sorry for my long post. Its gonna be my last one. It was somewhat therapeutic for me to talk about it. I donít know what Iím gonna do next. I think Iíll just give it some time.

Thanks to all of you for the pleasant stay. Special thanks to Veetid for a great font end and Mecury7 who made an awesome logo for me to use. Hey merc I added your logo to my album.
Bye yaíll. Itís been a short but sweet time visiting this forum. If you havenít seen the car please take a look.

Hey, that's a pretty tight setup. What part of CA are you in? Have you been in San Diego within the past year? I swear that I'm pretty sure I saw you on the road. I just can't remember when and/or where.

    Peace,

    Rafster
