Right hand white connector is power, left connector is audio, the long 80 pin connector is the IDE cable, check the way the ide cable is going from the mobo to the CDROM adapter. Also check your master/slave settings.

Is the CDROM adapter shared with anything else on the IDE Channel??

ok, got it to power on, but onbly if the IDE cable is unplugged. As soon as I plug the IDE cable into it, power is gone, it wont open or anything. Even if the IDE cable isnt plugged into the mobo. WTF is going on?

Yes, i would have the ide cable shared with my laptop hd.

Sounds like the IDE cable is the wrong way round going into the adapter, double check that pin one is going to the red side of the IDE cable.

I am having similar trouble as well but this one has me stumped.

I have a brand new pioneer dvr-k05 slot load that I'm just testing on my old k6-2 amd machine. But I cant seem to get it to work with my 80pin ide cable. so far I have tryed normal 40pin ide cable works fine. tryed different drive on the 80pin cable works fine but as soon as i hook up the laptop drive it just wont see it. I dont think its the laptop adaptor. Its got me stuffed whats wrong with it.

The Pioneer DVR-K05 will probably only owrk using a 40pin cable not 80pin, I very rarely connect a CD-ROM using an 80pin cable as it doesn't work quite often.
