this is the other one i am considering. its tiny. 20 gigs, 30 hour battery life. no color screen tho. it just came out, $240 linky

nice, but I wouldn't call it a carputer...

I actually just bought an iRiver H10 20GB player. It's pretty nice. Has a color screen which can display pictures and an FM tuner. The cool thing is that it supports subscription services like Yahoo Music Engine. So I pay a subscription to Yahoo and I can download all the music I want for "free". I can also pay $0.79 for a song so then I can do whatever the hell I want with it, otherwise I can listen to it on my desktop and my iRiver. The thing I don't like about the player is that it uses MTP (media transfer protocol) instead of just being appearing as a hard drive. I can still manually copy files to and from the device, but it's not exactly a hard drive and it only works on XP.

had I known about this sony unit I may have bought that instead....

My present mobile music setup:
Archos Gmni 120. It's no longer in production, but basially it's a 20GB HDD. IT's USB2.0, which makes it double-duty for work purposes (transfer of data, and such). I pipe that into the cassette player in my stock HU using a tape adapter.
Sound quality is decent. My higher-quality tunes play at the fidelity of a quality cassette.

It works....

I have much bigger plans that are slowly coming to fruition....

hehe yes, u 'could' pay for ure songs, but honestly, who pays for mp3s. fwahaha
