Also, please look at the wall cube, and tell us everything it says. If you ca nscan it, and upload it, it will be better. Next, get yourself a volt/multi meter. You will need this now, and in the future.

Then get back to us, and we can help you out, Mostly because you asked nicely, and posted in the NOOB forum.

The back of the DVD unit only has one ide male coming out from it. I am assuming power and data go into this one pin slot. It looks to be 34 pins in the back and that is it. I do not have the wall cube anymore. (I am an idiot and threw it away). So I am left with a power cord and a usb coming from the back of the DVD. HELP PLEASE. I need to power this thing. Thanks. The model number of the DVD unit is N533. It is a Compaq.

Hmmmmm, well. That is gonna make it very difficult to connect. The housing has a certain power requirement. Not only that, there are 2 contacts for power in the housing, the pin and the shield. One of them has to have positive power, and the other has to have negative. The question is, which one is which. USUALLY, positive is the pin, and negative is the shield, but that is not an absolute, I have seen it the other way.

Also, the housing may have internal voltage regulation, or it may not. Feeding it too little voltage, and nothing will happen. Feeding to much, up to a point, will blow it.

I would suggest the following. Contact the Compaq , and ask them. GO to the store and find the same housing, and look at the box. Sometimes they say the power requirements on the box. Ask them to open the box, and look at the power cube to see what it says. OR, open the unit up, and find the board. Look at the board for voltage regulators, and try and determine what voltage regulator is in there, if possible. Then "ohm" out the pins of the voltage regulator to the power jock to see which is negative and postitive.

There is no need to repost. Read your original thread.
