Are you using the XP drive as a slave on the 98 machine?
My friend just gave me his pentium II machine and it has winodws 98 on it at the moment and I have this hard drive from another computer with xp on it and when i use it as a slave to the other one it boots up fine but you can't see the hard drive in the my computer
also the hard drive light does come on at first but then shuts off is that normal?
Are you using the XP drive as a slave on the 98 machine?
98 won't recognize another hard drive attached to the system unless you enable the 2nd hard drive in the bios.
How large is the drive? Some P2 machines cant see more than 8 gig without some trickery. Also, is the first HD set to master (not CSEL or single) and the second jumpered to slave?
yes i'm using the xp one as a slave to the 98
how do i enable it in the bios? when it starts up the splash screen or whateaver you call it when it checks everything it says that my hard drive is there
it's a 40 gig
and I believe it is set to master and then the xp one is to slave
When its booting, is the size reported correctly? Does it say the size at all? It should be enabled if its showing during POST. Im still worried about size. For my old WD 8.4gig on a P2 machine I had to run an installation disk to get it to recognize the new drive.
also i'm having trouble installing an ethernet card
won't 98 have built in driver support for ethernet cards?
Windows 98 cannot read NTFS partitions (default setting for XP) so win98 will not see the drive.
PC Chips 1500,512mb ddr,no case yet, LinITX 7" touchscreen,300w inverter,RoadRunner FreeDrive,BU303 gps mouse.
then how can i change it?
Wow, sim, I feel stupid. You are the thread mvp. Very good point.
The ethernet card may or may not be supported. In 98 on my old system I had two cards...one would install automagically, the other would not.
