Molex and Simple + and - question

I bought a cold cathode light controller, of course, its not meant for use in the computer, but in my car. I have the basic four knob controller. let me get to the point.

I have a molex connection in the back, and I want to make it usable in the car. The wires are Red-Black-Black-Yellow. I assumed the Red and Yellow were pos, so I wired them to the positive wire I have going to my battery. I took both black wires and ran them to the neg. I installed a rocker on-off switch so its not always on. Now when I turn it on, the knobs' leds light up, but when I turn on the cold cathodes, they dont turn on. I'm wondering if I have a crappy unit, or my wiring was crappy. Any help is appricated.

(Incase you care what I'm doing with it)
I'm putting in three of these units in my jeep. I have one to control the front 4 blue neons under the front and back seats. I have one to control the red neons in the same places, and one to control the lights around my subwoofer. These 5.25" bays fit really nicely into my glove box for a conceled, factory apperance, instead of having a rocker switch in the open.

    12 volt is yellow
    5 volt is red....

you have wired them both to 12 volts? that would be the issue

I dont get it... do you want 12v or 5v? and you have a molex connector right? So just use Black&Red for 5v, or Black&Yellow for 12v...

unless it pulls a lot of power it wont be a problem...

I dont have a computer in my car. Finding something to convert 12v into 5v is proving harder than I thought.

Orrrr , you can use a computer psu combined with an inverter (but takes much space)

    And by 12v - 5v transformer I meant :

All you have to do is unscrew it and solder wires for the 12 v in -12v in and cut the plug for the 5v out.
