I don'e believe even a second mattery will allow you to do what you want with a PC, even the lowest-power EPIA board. It will drain the battery long before the timeframe you want.
I couldn't say about a PDA because I simply don't know.

I've just come across a site that also mentioned camera based security with paging function based on a EPIA board. They mentioned using Wake-On-Lan features. I'm curious if this is viable, although you could not hook into hte camera with a life wifi feed.

Another option I was considerign was to use a standalone wifi camera and connect it to my home computer, running hte security features completely from there. Of course this will only work while parked outside, or near a wifi hotspot of some kind.

a PDA seems lieka great solution to the power issue. Unfortunately I know of none to which I could connect a full size (well a 7" lilliput touch screen) or connect other "grown up" peripherials such as a DVD drive or harddisk.
