ubs cable working outside not working in car

I've got a 5 mt usb cable,it was working fine when i tried in my house but when it was cabled in my car it stopped working,what could be the problem?
I plugged a usb hub and it was found but no peripheral was working,then i tried plugging the peripheral directly and it didn't even powered (the led was off).

Pull the cable back out and try it again in the house. If it don't work, you've probably broke one of the wires inside the cable. You'll have to replace it. Hope this helps!

Problem with your car pc usb.
Check for bad connection or cable broken inside the cpu case. Good luck

It restarted working after i recabled the opus,don't know what problem it had.Now i can't get the hub working on that cable,and even the dvd-rom doens't work on that,could it be i've the 5v rail overloaded?
What peripheral use 5v?

if the wires in the cable are too small and the devices draw too much power from the usb port then you may have a power issue due to too much resistance in the cable. i had thhis happen once on a long usb cable. it was resolve by using a powered usb hub at the destination end of the cable.

Does the ignition 12 v have enough ampere to run the hub?
Because i don't want to have the hub always powered or have to use complex (just everything more than one circuit) circuitry as i don't understan much electronics.

I used a belkin 4 port hub that requires 7.5v @2.1A. I power it with a cheap universal car dc-dc adapter from walmart. I have it set up so that the power adapter is turned on by a relay that is activated by the 12 volt line on my psu, that way i dont draw too much power from the psu.
While i was testing the setup, i left the power adapter and the hub on all the time without a problem. i only added the relay so i am SURE i wil never drain the battery too much.

Thanks a lot!I will do that way.
I only found a 2 A dc-dc adapter,will it work with my 4 port usb hub?
I hope the hub draw only the power it need,not always its max.
The adapter is not so cheap so i want to be sure.

the dc-dc adapter that i have only does 2A as well. the hub will only draw the current that it deeds, so you should be fine. i have had no problems yet. Many usb devices only use 100 or 200 mA anyway.
