People have built systems with 1GHz CPU's that work just fine. It doesn't take much to play music. If you are really worried about it get something around 1.8GHz. Won't suck too much power and plenty quick enough to do what you need.

Simple. Get a Via Epia M10000 or M12000. They're not slow when it comes to playing music. I've got one and when you select play, it plays right away. I mean right then, not 2 seconds from now.
It's an integrated board and all you have to do is choose memory, a hard drive, and a power supply for it. Get Kingston as a brand name, Western Digital as a HDD 3.5" and an Opus. You're done except for the install and a keyboard/mouse.

wow a 3.0ghz CPU might be a little overkill unless you want to to divx rips while riding down the road.
