Red face Can MediaEngine build a home medai centre ?

Hi, I am a newbie, and came across the media engine via a PC USEr Magazine.
I have loaded it onto my PC and can see that it might make a good engine for a home media centre.
I would like to setup a dedicated pc as my home media centre, so that i can
    1. Play Divx movies on -demand from a 200Gb Hard Disk ( I have 100+ movies accumulated, mostly divx)
    2. Play mp3's thru Stere system
    3. Connect the movies output to my TV and 5.1 Sound System
    4. Use Remote to browse and select items to play on the TV screen

I will need a Basic PC , Win XP Pro, connect to other Pc's in network (to upload with new material)
I have a Packard Bell PC Remote i was hoping to use
I will want a Digital PC Card (What TV Cards are compatable ??)
I will also need a video card that can supply Video Out (not TV composite, it is not good enough) - What is a compatible AGP card ??
have a MIRO DC30 card, and was wondering if I can use this ??

Am I barking up the wrong tree, or should I be looking at Windows Media Centre ??

[note to moderator's: this should probably be moved to "Media Engine" or at least "Software"]

Any of these front ends should be able to handle this, but why? It is my impression that they are mostly aimed at using within a touch screen interface. Although, they are built around lower resolutions so that would help make things look nicer on a TV.

Yeah...but I can see the potential of this. I mean seriously, the remotes that you can buy for this kind of thing are over $250. Can you imagine hardwiring and recessing the touchscreen into a little desk or the arm of a nice recliner in your "home theater?"

If you're going to go the PC MediaCenter route as opposed to the high end way, then why not. If you're going to be fancy, may as well work it to have two video outputs, one to the touchscreen and the other to your DLP/LCD projector with DVI input or something or other.

    Good luck!

Thanks Guys, I'll check out these other option. They might be better suited to
a Home Media Centre than this media engine.

Well really this should only be affected by the hardware. As long as the UI works at whatever x 525/480-ish at 60Hz interlaced you're fine. (If you're using an HDTV monitor, you've got more options).

BTW, if you really want HTPC info, try AVS Forum. I haven't hung out there in a while but when I built my setup it provided all the information I needed.
