    Suggestions on Vette?

Okay, so my car is finally back from the body shop. The exterior looks great now. New coat of paint, some body work, shaved door handles, and no emblems. I was aiming for it to be as smooth looking as possible and I think it turned out nice. I still need some wheels, but it's hard for find any that will fit without expensive custom work since it is an older car. A few extra touches like glass T-tops will come later, but too expensive right now.

Anyways, I want to start on the interior now, including my car pc. I plan to rip out the carpet and install some sound dampening first, but I need to start plannning for the rest while I'm at it. I'm either going to refinish the dash or replace, not sure yet. The biggest problem is finding a way to fit the screen since I don't have much of an area to work with. I plan to remove the center gauge cluster and OEM radio and put everything there. I want to use software to display the gauge information on my lcd or get a custom cluster for the area behind the steering wheel that includes the missing gauges, plus the speedometer and such.

Even if I do that and have the whole center dash area to work with, it's still small. Any suggestions? I have some pics for what I'm talking about....

    First the car:

    Center console
    Wide view
    Measurement

I was originally wanting to go with a 10" screen, but I doubt it would fit. Maybe I could install it vertically. I dunno since I don't have one on hand to measure or test fit.

Edit: Sorry, photo server went down as soon as I posted this.
Edit: Looks like it's up again!

It seems a safer option would be to retain actual gauges for the Spedo, temp, RPM and fuel since the PC is not going to 100% reliable. Sounds like a cool idea though. Search the forums, cause somebody was working on software to display the cluster info, I think they were using the OBD, but am not sure.

Yeah, I've been following that thread. Speedometer and RPMs are covered on the main gauge cluster behind the steering wheel. I won't make that PC controlled at all, either it stays the same or I get a new one that includes the other stuff as well as what is there now. The center gauge cluster includes, since the pic doesn't work, the fuel gauge, water temp, battery level, oil pressure, and a non functioning clock. Plus the tape deck that also doesn't work.

I won't be able to implement OBD until I change out the engine, which I plan to do eventually.

Thanks, I plan to eventually swap out to a LS1 or something similiar and a 4 speed automatic. More power, less weight, better fuel economy, and a smoother ride at highway speeds. Right now with the 3 speed it caps out at about 90mph...with 140 on the speedometer. Disappointing to say the least....

Hmmmm...it looks like the standard size is 10.4" for lcds. The mp3car store has one and I've found a few more just looking around here and there. Of course they all seem to have 800x600 max resolution (most are 640x480) and horrible response times. Has anyone seen one with maybe 1024x768 resolution? I would also prefer a response time fast enough to prevent ghosting while watching videos. Surely they make screens like this to use in ultra light laptops. I was planning to use the LVDS interface to hook it up to my car pc. I guess I'll keep looking.

Edit: Nm, looks like 1024x768 is not going to happen. Besides, it'd be too high of resolution for that size screen. I'm used to my big desktop monitor. This one: http://www.evisiondisplays.com/evd104s01-hdsc.html looks good, but no idea how much it costs. I found it on Giuliano's thread about the lvds displays. The response time isn't mentioned either....
