Talking Hi everyone - newbie wiv a TV Screen...

Hi everyone - nice website u got here - looks

Here's a quick pic of me car - a Rover 100 aka Metro in disguise lol...

I just got meself one of those in car TV \ LCD monitor screens - here's one on eBay just made by different manufacturer...

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1

What I wanna do is use the TV out on say a PC \ laptop and use that screen for the output - spec says

    Super High quality Picture: 1480 (H) x 234 (V)

Ok H wise but not so much for V-res - question is how do I get a lower screen res that will show up OK on the screen - is there a special program to use or summat in say Linux that'll be more custom?

U've prob has this qu many times b4 and u mite say or -I jus wanna know if it's possible then I'll look a bit harder

    Cheers,

    Gerrard Shaw

    Hi there and welcome.
That's a Lilliput in disguise. Pretty sweet, it has a built in TV Tuner. I had one of those.
Unfortunatlly with S-video you can't make the image so clear on a 7" LCD. The screen is simply too little. It should be ok for GPS, videos and games though.
I don't know about any program that could help you out, except maybe Powerstrip. The way I see it is for you to make a skin with all the fonts big and clear in colours.

Hey agen - I've been reading the forums trying to get some ideas - I've looked at some of the front-ends e.g. RoadRunner, FrodoPlayer etc - I see in Frodoplayer u can set custom screen resolutions for the app so could I make it so it runs on my screen or wud it look OK with one of the standard resolutions but a bit squashed?

I tried fiddling around with different res last nite - 640x468 was pretty usable with big text so how much tweaking wud I need 2 do wiv the frontend \ skins - I'm gonna try installin it 2nite and see how it goes but any advice on obvious things I mite b missin wud be much appreciated.

    Cheers guys

That's the beauty of a skinnable app: you can make a skint hat looks the way you need/want it to. Most of the skins available should scale down just fine. If not, make your own!

Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

    Red face

Sorry if my message before annoyed you - be assured there's nothing wrong with my spelling - just ask me for my grades in school \ 6th form if you want proof

It's just when I go on the Internet for forums \ MSN I go into lazy mode and abbreviate words just to save time - if it's annoying I apologise - I'm trying really hard in this post to type everything properly - please dont me!!!

    I'll learn by my mistakes

Well since nobody's mentioned it yet, you may have already figured this out, but the resolution they list isn't the "real" resolution... they include all 3 colored subpixels separately in the horizontal res, so to get the actual resolution you divide it by 3; therefore your actual res is more like 493x234.
since you're driving it with a TV signal from a computer, the actual res of what you're sending it won't be that important, just that it's the right aspect ratio, since it's going to look fuzzy no matter what.
But don't take it from me! here's a quote from a real, live newbie:

Yeah I read something about that a thread somewhere on here while I was reading other posts to get a rough idea of what to do - I thought it couldn't be 1400-odd pixels across when the graphics card was scrolling the screen on the TV output...

Wouldn't it be better to get the right resolution if I can so the screen and Windows will be the same pixel for pixel? Although if it means I have to design my own skins I'll stick with the squashed down look for now until I get a bit more knowledge of how this all works!
