Some people are using commercial USB products, but usually complain about the reception.
You should look in the Hardware Development section on the sticky thread. (really long one). It will tell you that a few different projects are being developed that you can build yourself. You can also have a bit more patience as this product as I have understood it, is being commercialized, so you can buy a complete product from some retailer..

Hey im looking to make a car PC for my car too (05 GLI). I came accross the same problem. I was gonna get a hauppage card the 350 or a win-Radio. But you need a PCI slot. I wanna get an ampie case so i found the griffin radioshark. Its completly USB and has an antenna connection. From what I hear it has a good reception.
