    Set-Up Thoughts

So what does everyone think about this set-up? I have looked for power consumptios but havent had much luck.

    ASUS A8V-MX

AMD Mobile Athlon 64 3000+ (DTR) 800MHz FSB Socket 754 Processor

    CORSAIR XMS 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM

    TOSHIBA Super Slimline 40GB 2.5"

I plan on getting a Xenarc 7 in Touch Screen for the dash 94 Mustang GT and an External HD for the glovebox and i would like MP3/DVD/CD Playback-GPS-Playstation 2-Navigation-Mobile Internet-Cellphone Integration-and possibly OBD but i dont think its offered for a 94 Mustang i think it started in 96. I am almost positive that this PC will be powerful enough to do all this but now what Powersupply would be powerful enough for this PC. I would like to stay away from using a DC-AC converter.

    Thank You

Go do some reading on DC-DC power supplies.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

OK i found the calculator and i input the closest things i could find to what i wanted and got 195 and this is just for the

    AMD Mobile Athlon 64 3000+ (DTR) Socket 754 Processor -- 89W
    Onboard Video 10W
    CORSAIR XMS 1GB (2 x 512MB) 20W
    TOSHIBA Super Slimline 40GB 2.5" 5W
    CPU Fan 5W
Panasonic Slot Load DVD-ROM/CD-RW Combo Drive 24x24x24 20W
    ASUS A8V-MX 25W
    Sound Blaster 7W
    2 USB 2.0 Hub 10W
    2 80mm System Fans 4W

Ok so is there a way to split the load between 2 power supplies maybe a 150 and a 90 opus? There has to be a better/easier/cheaper way funny thing is.

    Thank You

You don't need AMD Mobile Athlon 64 3000+ (DTR) Socket 754 Processor. Get urself a Athalon XP-M 35W

    Peace,

    CPU: 89w ÷ 12v = 7.42a
    Mobo w/ onboard video & RAM: 25w+20w+10w = 55w ÷ 12v = 4.48a

Just your CPU, RAM and motherboard are sucking nearly 12 amps off the 12 volt rail. That doesn't include fans, hard drives, optical drives, LCD screen or anything else requiring 12v.

You are completely missing the point here. I understand your desire for a big bad-*** powerhouse computer system. It lengthens, thickens and hardens your geek penis all at the same time, and that's not a bad thing at all.
However, you have to think about what you're going to be doing in the car.
When it's released, are you planning on playing Quake4 on the PC in your ride? Maybe some groovy 3D renderings?

    I didn't think so.

Right now, there's no DC-DC power solution for what you want in your car, period. Sorry. I can't change that, but maybe some of the more electrical engineering-inclined members can (*cough*DragonBTV*cough*zootjeff*cough*).
If you want to run your ***-kicking gamer rig in your car, then you're going to need an inverter. That's going to be a pain in the *** and bring about other headaches.
If you're willing to scale your setup back and look at lower-power alternatives like the Pentium M or the Athlon XP-M, then your going to be able to configure a system that will work within the constraints of the currently-available DC-DC power supplies.

Ok at Newegg can get a Athlon XP 2400+(35w) - Asus mobo - Corsair value selct 1 gb (2x512). So is it safe to assume this will run GPS-Emulators-DVD Playback-OBD. I can get it all for 240$ so i may be able to order it next payday.

The VIA EDEN boards are small, low-powered and can be run with little or no active cooling (aka fans).

I'm in agreement with you, though. When a P-III running at teh same clock speed with a comparable FSB will blow it out of the water, it's not a particularly viable choice for me, either.

    To each his/her own....
