    Relays and how they work

All I want is a simple relay that gets a signal from my car's ignition (like a car stereo works) and then allows the current to flow from my batteries to my DC/AC Inverter. There's like 4different types of relays that I can possibly use, but dunno which one I actually need:

    -NC (Normally Closed)
The contact, if any, that is "ON" with no coil power.

    -NO (Normally Open)
The contact that is "ON" only with coil powered.

    -Common (Common Contact)
The "hot" contact to which the NC and NO contacts switch.

    -SPST (Single Pole, Single Throw)
A relay with a single set of contacts and no NC contact.

    So would I want NC?

Do NO (as you called it) and power it from a perif that only gets power when the car is in the on position, heck you coud do it with something that has powr from the on or acc position if you want to sit in the car and use the comp.
