DPDT relay.
Hello everyone. Been searching the forums for an hour now trying to see if this has been mentioned.
I have an Alpine HU with the RCA to AI-Net converter. I have an ipod and sirius radio I want to toggle between since I only have one AUX Input on my Alpine. I currently have my ipod and my sirius radio hooked up to this ugly switch I had for my tv. I know alpine makes a unit that switches between 2 RCAs and 2 CD Changers, but it's $149 for something I don't really need.
Is there a better switch I can buy or make thats not as big and bulky as this solution? What I would like to do is put a toggle switch in my dash to switch between the two. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
MrMarbles.

Why not use a relay with your switch?
I am going to put a 4PDT relay in a friend's car in the morning. Flipping one switch will throw the four signals (L+, L-, R+, R-) from either the XM or the aux input.

I hadn't even thought of a DPDT switch. Do the left/right RCA cables have + & - or are they just one cable?
two rcas...both will have + and -
If you strip the wire, the + is in the middle and the - is wrapped around it. They should be separated with a tubing like insulation.

How would I wire that up on at DPDT?
You would have to have 2 DPDTs right? One for left, one for right? I'm guessing that's why you suggested the 4PDTs.
I use DPDT and only switch the +s. The -s are usually tied to ground in each case. You should check this with a multimeter.

Yes, you should use 4PDT relay.
DPDT is how I get use to punch on the keyboard with my fingers, but I do mean 4PDT.

Thanks, I'll have to go searching around here for a 4PDT. BTW, MatrixPC, can I have your body kit?![]()
