Carpc in alfa 156, need suggestions

    Good evening,

After a hard day of searching the whole board I've gatherd enough information for my carputer project.

I own a Alfa Romeo 156, it's a beautifull and amazing car but there's always room to improve

I'm planning to use this hardware:

    Celeron/Athlon 2000 +
    Small Atx/Matx Motherboard
    200GB IDE drive
    DVD player
    200W PSU
    GPS unit
    512mb RAM

I'll also use a 12->230 300W convertor for my power needs

In the front I want to mount a lilliput 7"touchscreen inside the dash

And that's a bit of a problem My alfa has a small console without a lot of spare room for a screen + HU.

I've found a picture of a 7" in an alfa console and it shows my problem perfectly.

The owner of this car remounted the HU to another location .. don't know where, but it's useless unless it's mounted in the dash. So, my question is. Can a carpc replace a HU completly? If so, I guess I need a seperate amplifier for the speakers?

sure. There is no reason why a carpc cant replace a HU (thats how mine is). You just need an amp to power the speakers, fm tuner (if you really need it), and at least a cd drive.

they make USB FM tuners for pretty cheap, and they work as well, if not better, than the one in a HU.

I would invest in sirius satellite radio. I cant live without it.
