    Smile Sound any good?

Ok, just wanted some input on anything ive forgotten or got completely wrong.

What I think I have to buy.....

    Mini ITX Case
    M10000 mobo
    Opus 90w PSU
    Ram
    Slimline DVD drive
External Slim DVD enclusure (USB 2.0)
In Dash flip out monitor, the XENARC im thinking, but do they have a motorised monitor? Much cooler than having to push the thing in and out
Little keyboard to go into the glovebox
    USB Hub
    Bluetooth dongle
    Wireless dongle
    Hard Drive
    Bunch of cables
    Software
    GPS Mouse

I also have a couple questions on software, simply put, which front end integrates the most effectively with which GPS application? From what ive gathered people seem to like using Road Runner with Map Monkey.

Noticed cases for 2.5 inch hard drives and 3.5 inch hard drives. I'd rather go 3.5 inch because its more cost effective, but whats the difference in the overall size of the case?

If I want to run a keyboard, a bluetooth dongle, a wireless dongle, and the touchscreen interface through the usb hub, am i likely to need a powered hub? Cause that means playing around with sending the ignition wire in yet another direction, buying a relay, and im guessing i would have to get a transformer, depending on whether the hub would take a 12 volt input. Not too knowledgable with electronics, could cranking damage a hub in this way?

Thanks if you just spend a couple of minutes reading this guys and gals

A few misc comments starting at the top..

    1) "Opus 90w PSU"
You sure 90w Opus will be enough?

    2) "In Dash flip out monitor, the XENARC im thinking, but do they have a motorised monitor? Much cooler than having to push the thing in and out"
Xenarc has an in-dash motorized unit (700IDT - the 700 TS and TSV are the non in-dash ones) - it has some issues and was recenlty pulled from the mp3car store but you can find them elsewhere. Search for more info.

    3) "which front end integrates the most effectively with which GPS application"
I like Road Runner and iGuidance.. Any frontend and gps should work fine together, that's the point of most of them.

    4) "If I want to run a keyboard, a bluetooth dongle, a wireless dongle, and the touchscreen interface through the usb hub, am i likely to need a powered hub?"
You might, depends on the hardware.. some of my keyboards require power, some don't. Plug it in and try it. Most hubs take 5V, and the easiest way is to run a regulated 5V from your comp's PSU. Run a search on this.

Totally disregarding the list except for partial scanning, it seems everything only the list is pc/display related, but you need to think about power/wires. Are you going to have an inverter? a power distribution block? what about a startup/shutdown controller? to name a few things to think about. I know I didn't see these things in the planning portion of my first project Just a couple tidbits of money I didn't have, that I needed to spend for everything to work smoothly. Just keep that in mind if your workin on a budget.

Opus should work for this stuff, but good point about the wiring, that adds up as well (power cables, USB and VGA extension cables, etc etc)

you guys make it sound hard. Get an inverter and the **** sitting infront of your face. That will work fine. You might wanna ditch the old boob tube for a LCD though.

    NO, j/k.
Just get a PSU that can handle about 150 watts, or go with all laptop parts. Laptop parts are shock resistant and use less power. Wiring shouldn't be that big of a deal. Run a wire to the PSU. Problem solved. The biggest factor is going to be where the carputer is going. If its under the seat, minimal wiring is needed, if it is in the trunk, have fun with it.
Progress,.... that is what I keep forgetting ;)
