    Possibilities

OK, so basically I want the whole carputer. Touch screen, GPS, all that...but I really don't want to mess with my cars electrical systems. Is it possible since everything is USB so it will run off the computer, to just get an adapter for the computer to plug into the cigarette lighter type sockets?

If you use a laptop, that MIGHT be possible. The monitor should be able to run off your cigarrette lighter (it is hard to say if both the laptop and monitor will work off the lighter plug, I think it probably won't) but getting the wires there will make it ugly.

What vehicle do you have? That should determine how confident you should be with playing with power cables. For example, my car is 27 years old, so playing with cables wont do too much damage

You should have used a power calculator by now to see how much power your system is going to draw. That, plus the 5-10W your screen will need, means you're going to be trying to suck a hell of a lot of juice through that lighter socket, which really isnt suitable for much more than a laptop.

My system pulls 70W - Ive seen cigarette lighter PSUs that provide 72W (for an IBM laptop) but I wouldnt want to go much above that.
