    New guy needs opinions

New to the whole car PC thing. Not clueless to computers or car stereo but I have never actually done this whole CAR PC thing.

I purchased a system already up and running from CYNICALWRY on the forum. Here is what it contains.

This screen interfaces with the computer. It use the screen like a mouse, so a keyboard/mouse is not needed. It also has two RCA inputs (I used one for my rear view camera and one for my Xbox)

    P3 1.4 Ghz CPU
    512 MB Ram
    40GB hard drive
    DVD rom
    all the inputs/outputs you'll want/need

I use copilot live laptop for my GPS software. It integrates perfectly with the touch screen, bringing up an on screen keyboard for all of your entries. Again, a keyboard and mouse are not needed to use this.

I purchased a keyboard/mouse when I initially installed the carputer. After a few weeks, I noticed I never used it, so I took it out. I'll include it in the package (it's all wireless)

Also included is all the wiring needed to hook up the carputer to either a/c or dc current. I'm also including the wiring kit used to turn the carPC on/off. It's pulse activated, so you can hook it up to a switch and/or an alarm output. I had it so I could turn the PC on from my alarm remote.
    Here are a few questions.

    1. I purchased this system to run the engine management system for my 2003 Evolution VIII. Its called ECU PLUS and the system info can be found at www.ecuplus.com

    2. After looking on here for the last couple days I see that there are so many different options. I am thinking about playing my music through this. Also using one of the Video inputs for a rear view Camera.

    3. I am currently a Sirius subscriber and would also like to use that if possible.

What advice can you guys give me on on making these things possible, if they are at all possible with what I have.

Also I am probably going to sell the monitor and buy a motorized unit to conserve space.

Thanks in advance for your inputs guys.

    Dan

All of your questions are answered in depth in the FAQ emporium.

    1. Not sure what your question is.
    2. Here's where the FAQ emporium comes in big time.
    3. There is an entire thread dedicated to using Sirius (not sure if it's in the faq's though).

I'm not tryingto be a dumb ***, I run a forum and I know how frustrating it can be when a noob doesnt search, my apologies if I made it sound like I had not used search. I have sinced looked in the FAQ and searched. I just read my thread and I did a crappy job of expressing my questions.

Thanks for the info Bora! I promise the install will be clean. The car has been sitting for 3 months while I'm over here in Iraq and I've spent over 5 grand on stuff for it so when I get home in Jan it will be done right! THANKS again sir.

If you ever have any more specific questions feel free to ask. The FAQ emporium and the Sirius thread will give you better answers than anyone replying most likely could or would. The fact that you didn't get all uppity when I suggested going through the FAQ's shows that you are not a n00b, just new to the hobby. Good luck with everything over there and enjoy your system when you come back.

Ok, I'm going to ask a stupid question because I dont know any better. When you guys refer to a "front end" like Road Runner is that just a program I can use to control CAR PC options or is it a mobile type of operation system?

yeah, its the programs made for in car use in mind
we call them front ends cuase they often have other parts added to them
    and skins everything

so its just the front end of it.

It is the interface you use to access different functions. It runs on top of the operating system. It is just a program that is setup to control various different things, such as media playback, navigation, etc.
