    What do I need to power my system?

    Hi everybody, I'm a new member for Italy..

    I don't know how to power my system
    here is:
    CPU: Intel Celeron 733 (slot 370)
    Ram: 512Mb dimm
    Motherboard: unknown
    Video: Matrox G400

    I think it's ok to play some mp3, divx and to run a navigation system, but I don't know how to power it!
    Any ideas?

    Thanks everybody!

    I apologize for my poor english but I hope you will understand me..

    I am using a borrowed inverter from a friend of mine. I would not likely keep this solution for a more permanent install (my project is very much a proof-of-concept for the time being)

    Here is what they look like
    http://www.crutchfield.com/S-0ydSmkp...&go.x=0&go.y=0

    Negative = It is loud.
    Negative = I think there is a risk of draining my car battery if I leave it (the inverter) on, even if the PC is off.
    Advantage = It's free for now
    Advantage = It's simple

    See FAQ: Power Supplies Explained (Part 1) for much better reasons for this device (and others).

    I have three long haired peruvian mongooses (mongeese?) trained to run in a large rodent exercise wheel on command. Said wheel is hooked up to a DC generator.

    Seriously, all answers in links in both above responses

    I've read the links you post before... thank you everybody!
    at this link I've calculated 103,52 Watts without the monitor (more info in the image below)

    do you think a dc/dc 120W is enoght?
    any other ideas of what type of power supply?

    Umm, I looked at that image. You have "Motherboard w/on-board devices: 2"
    "2"? You are planning on two mobos? Getting rid of 1 of your mobos give you 12W back.

    It's good. Opus is a fine power supply. The 150 looks like it'll do everything you want. I brought up the extra 12W because it might let you get away with a 120W. Those calculators are usually peak power for everything at once. Which probably never happens. The other thing to look at is the per-rail max of your PSU versus your needs. For example, you could need less than 90W overall, but draw more than 3A from the 12V. If you're using an m1-atx, then you have a problem (2A max continuous, 2.5A max peak). So you have to make sure each rail (3.3V, 5V, 12V) is under the PSU's max as well as total watts.
