    An Aussie Newbie

    Gday

You call that a knife? (hope some of you get this )

Ok Cliches is out of the way. I am completly new and I have been searhcing the site diligently and I have read all the FAQ's.

What I need is guidance. Firstly I have read the positives and negatives of Invertors and I have come to the conclusion that you have to spend big bucks to get a good one and you may as well buy a specialised power supply for a little more.

Any members here from Australia/know of somewhere that is in or will ship to Australia? I am on a budget and I have limited ot know knowledge of cars or circuitry, I know computers quite well.

I have a celeron 1ghz all ready for the trunk of my car, but so many options its all getting too expenisve for something I was going to be able to do on the cheap.

Help an Aussie out and believe me I have been lurking for 4 days searching before I got too confused and asked.

    Cheers
    Simon

    this is a knife!

Hey mate, i picked up a case from www.eyo.com.au, it came with a power supply for home but easy to hook up to the car using a tank circuit (read up on that) the case cost me about $130. It has a jack on the back for 12v which should be regulated although mine never was and i have never had a problem.
What sort of car is it going into? Have you thought about what screen? I would probably stay away from Lilliput as i had some probs with mine but there are plenty of options around these days. Good luck with it all!!

Thanks Mate. Will check up on Tank Circuit. Did you EBAY your screen? If so how reliable are Hong Kong stores to Aust and what are the import prices like?

EDIT: Ok checked out tank circuit and looks kinda scary for a complete circuitry noob. Was simply looking at an inverter running off ciggie wires/battery and computer in s4 hibernate. Inverter switched off when away for long periods. Will this work?

    ebayed

I did ebay my screen and i had no dramas with the postage or duties as they marked it "gift" and put a price of $150 on it so i didnt get charged.
Have you got a mate who could wire up the tank circuit? Its really not hard and won't take long at all to do. As for the inverter im not really sure i never wanted to use one i guess you'll have to search that too, A lot of people seem to use them but i guess it depends on how far you want to go on the install.

I had the Lilliput 7" touchscreen and it was through Ex-audio on ebay.No probs with them.I did have issuses with the screen but only when it got warm (it would go all fuzzy, then white, then off) so i put a fan on the back to keep it cool, that did the job quite nice.

Edit: yeah it was from Hong Kong, got it in about 3 or 4 days.
