Question In dash monitors and slimlines

Hello! Here's my first post...I tried searching the site, but could not find exact information on this. Maybe someone can help?

I am quite new to this and I am currently in the planning stages of setting up a carputer. I want to use a motorized in-dash LCD monitor (like the one advertised in the store), but I still want (if I need to!) play CDs from somewhere near the dash. On all the in-dash monitors, it appears as if there is no slot to install at least a slimline CD/DVD player, which is what I would like to do.

Those of you who have in dash monitors and slimline DVD players, how did you do things? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but none of the FAQs seem to address this.

    Confused, but with Carisma

Of course, if you provide a picture of your cars dash, we might be able to help you find a place for it.

Ok, sorry about that. This will be for a 2002 BMW M3. The first link from Wiredwrx was perfect as that person had an M3. If there are any other pics/info for that car, send them my way. I will check that others can PM me so this thread doesn't grow unnaturally long or anything.

Lots of 3 series on this board. Do a search for "BMW e46" or Just E46 and lots will show up.

Thats cool for those people who do custom bondo and stuff, but I'm with the original poster...

Why the hell has no one come out with a single-DIN motorized LCD with a slot-load slimline on the bottom instead of those gay character LCDs and buttons???

There should be plenty of room... Put the motorized LCD on top with its buttons on the front & the slimline DVD on the bottom with a single eject button and maybe a USB port. Inside you would also have a USB-hub so that one USB connection would connect the touch-screen, the slimline DVD, and a front & rear usb port.

    MAKE IT!!! (please?)

I think it is a matter of room. I have had a motorized unit apart, and while it lloks like the bottom of the screen can fit a slimline, the motor, gear, and moving parts are down on the bottom of the unit. There is just no room for a slimline, even if the buttons on removed. I actually tried it.
