absolutely nothing. I think a better alternative would be....hook up your cable modem or router to an outlet controlled by a light swtich.

Oh my god. that is @#$%ing brilliant! Its ideas like this that make me want to smack my forehead with large blunt objects... A completely useless "device" that does nothing special, marketed to the right demographic. Someone is sleeping very well tonight.
Here's a task that's even less demanding than turning a light switch off, with the same end-result:
Move the cursor over to the Task Bar, right-click on your Internet Connection icon, choose Disable.
There's much less muscles involved in that situation.
