    Saab 9000 Aero CarPC project.

OK. I have me one Saab 9000 Aero (1995) whcih has a sony sound system installed, including (from the factory) a 4x 50w RMS amp under the drivers seat.
under the passengers seat, i plan on piling in the following:
    • VIA Mini ITX w/ 1ghz C3 cpu
    • Morex ProCase Mini-ITX 2600 black, (internal PSU takes a 12v feed from external source ie. regulated car supply - must be 5A capable)
    • 2x 2.0m USB 2.0 cables male to female
    • 512mb DDR RAM
    • 8" or 7" touch screen
    • USB 802.11g dongle for wireless
    • 200Gb IDE HDD
    • GPS mouse (already own)

the amp will allow me to have 4ch surround sound.
Any suggestions? I have a fair bit of computer hardware experience, and the same for cars, so i'm not a noob to computers or cars.
the USB cables are for raising the GPS mouse to a better position outside the car, and to give me a single USB port on the dash, next to the monitor.

Just one thing to add, remember that USB limitations are around 16 feet (4.8 meters) so if you have any problems with your GPS mouse being detected, that may be the cause. Personally I've gotten USB to go around 29 feet, but that was with Cat5e cable instead.

yeah.. I will be having one 2m cable for the mouse, so it will have a total of 3m to the actual mouse, and the other 2m goes to an on dash usb port. I was also thinking i may put a cat 6 cable and socket near there too, so that if someone has a computer without wireless, they can still connect to the carpc if needed (maybe just stick it in the middle console for the back seats.)

just measured up... 7" TFT touch screen will fit perfectly, including all adjustment buttons and IR for remote. sure it may not look as OEM as just a touch screen without buttons, but i don't mind.

You might want to think twice about putting the touchscreen and GPS under the seat...I don't think either would be useful there.
