Which pins exactly have you shorted?
Hey guys, this is the first time that I've ever built a computer, and I'm having a difficult time getting it to boot up. I'm trying to test it on my desk before I install everything into my car, so I've got everything hooked up to a desktop PSU for now. All I have hooked up for a test boot is
EPIA M10000 motherboard
512 MB ram
Western Digital 80 GB 2.5" hard drive
slim load DVD-RW drive
mouse/keyboard/desktop monitor
I hooked all of this up and tried to short the on/off switch jumpers to start it up, but nothing happened. Am I forgetting something? Thanks for the help.
Which pins exactly have you shorted?

I don't see a PSU in your list. That would most definatly cause that problem.
also make sure that the power supply's on/off switch is on... then a small pocket knife (etc) will allow you to jumper the on/off pins... which are located on the front corner of the board... the manual will show which pins to jump... it is just a momentary short that is necessary to make it all come to life...

The power supply that I used was from an old desktop at work. It didn't have an on/off switch on it. I know that it works, because I popped it back into the desktop and booted everything up fine.Originally Posted by mgithens
Maybe it's the wrong pins that I'm shorting? I used pins 6 and 8 on the motherboard, where the on/off cable would connect from the M2-ATX I have when I eventually plug that into the car.
yeah, those are the right ones... just looked at your manual on page 2-12 it shows that 6&8 are the right ones...
this will probably be one of those instances where you will kick yourself because the solution is so simple

6 & 8 are the right pins. Don't laugh at my artwork of the panel connector block here; make sure:Originally Posted by Tuscani.demon

When I was installing my M10k, I had occasions where I'd put the jumper accross instead of down which resulted in the motherboard not turning on, of course.

I just want to make sure that I understand you, what do you mean when you say "across instead of down"?Originally Posted by edikp
He means make sure you're really jumping 6 & 8 not 5 & 6 or 7 & 8... 6&8 being "above" each other, rather than "across" from each other.Originally Posted by Tuscani.demon
