    Why Use A Front End

    Hi There,

    I have downloaded and installed Roadrunner and have some questions about frontends in general.

    Why do they exist?? Every function that it controls is done by a different program, eg music is played by Winamp, surfing the net is done with the specified Web Browser etc etc. In the Windows Task Manager it shows me that Winamp is using approx 10,000K of memory, Internet Explorer is using approx 30,000K, and Roadrunner is using approx 10,000K. I could understand if the front end performed the functions of Winamp and Internet Explorer itself, but that is not the case.

    If I was to run Winamp and Internet Explorer on their own I would save some processing power. Why have a program to oversee the operation of other programs. Is a front end only for bigger buttons and skins? I can see no other benefits!

    No benefits of a frontend? Wow you must be new.. Try choosing searching through songs in Winamp on a touchscreen, or anything for that matter via no frontend on a touchscreen.. It blows dude..

    Frontends put everything in one access place.. You don't have to try and launch programs via TINY icons on a desktop..

    Now, if your not using a touchscreen it would be a different story but still a pain to not use one IMO.

    why use a GUI with windows? command prompt works....

    few setups work well without a frontent (ie only want to run a GPS app)

    Why use a computer?
    You could carry a radio, a GPS unit, a DVD player, a scantool, etc.

    Even better, carry all that while walking....
