Thread: athlon mobile cpus

Socket A? Or 754? What kind of athlon.

Anyway the answer is yes and no. Any socket A mobo pretty much will boot, but if the bios doesn't allow tweaking you may not be able to run it with correct voltage and frequency. Some will autodetect it correctly, others won't.

And there's the pin mod for the motherboards that won't allow you to change clockspeed/multiplier.

My mobo wont let me change the multiplier so somebody on here suggested CrystalCPUID and that actually worked from within windows..

Btw I'm running a AMD 2500 Mobile and love it!

i was thinking of going with just a socket A board. i wasn't too worried about overclocking/underclocking and fsb settings too much. if i needed to i'm sure i could do the mods. i was just wondering if an athlon mobile would work in any amb based mobo. thanks for the answers. you guys are very helpful.

It all depend on Mobo, but most/all work just fine.
I have a SOYO mATX mobo with VIA chipset for sale that sure work with mobile CPU (but not 100% correct speed: +2400 instead of +2500). There is a jumper to select FSB for it to work. No pin mod.

One is a mobile Athlon Xp and one is amobile Athlon64.

One is 32 bit and one is 64 bit

ok. i didn't kno if there was a difference in power or anything. idk much about computers or anything but me and my dad have had to rebuild my computer twice now cuz the first motherboard we had went out (msi) so bought another msi board (not a high-end one) and we had alot of problems then on. the ground point came loose and fried the memory, cpu, and 200gig hd. sucked. but prior my dad did somewhat extensive reviews and browsing around on computers so i'm sure i have adequate knowledge on what i want to do and on some parts i want to get. but thanks for the follow-up post. looking forward to piece my future carputer together soon. thanks.

If you know you're not all that knowledgable about building a computer, do you really think it's wise to begin a project that involves building a computer?
