looks like once you vacate the oem radio you'll have the perfect spot to mould in a display.
I am a complete n00b when it comes to car radios. Having seen the DIY "carputors" some of you guys have done have me dragging my jaw against the ground!! Simply unreal.
I just got a Jetta 2006 ("Mk5?") and am very pleased with the car. While I think the radio is fine, I wouldn't mind souping it up a bit so it doesn't look so damn Fisher Pricey ...
There's NO WAY I can do the stuff by myself. Any advice on what to look out for and how much I should be paying?
I have jetta mk5 and i am finishing my set upOriginally Posted by the.ronin
i have a lcd instead of the headunit., also to run the audio out of the pc., you will have to have a steady signal, (pre-amplifier) going out of your sound card.,
but i decided to go different route, i bought a kenwood mp5028 unit from crutchfield, and intalled it in the glove compartment (you will have to do some trimming to fit) anyway it did wonders to my speakers., the VW head unit sucks, it's manufactured by DELPHI
here is a pictorial of how to get into the dash
if you got questions don't hesitate to pm

A mk5 (pronounced "mark 5") is the fifth gen Jetta, which is pretty dang sweet. That radio is crying out to be replaced. If you get it done at an Al & Ed type place, they will charge you an arm and a leg. I would estimate on the order of $1,000 just to do the installation. Where are you? Maybe someone here is mildly local to you. Measure the dimensions of that opening and post them up. You may not have to do much custom fabbing, if any at all.
You could easily replace that radio with a computer, a touchscreen monitor, a 4 channel amp and be done with it.
isn't there a double din adapter for that space?
if so then all you need is the adapter and some epoxy, filler and paint, search the forums on how to fab a dash properly
then it'll be a straight swap for your stereo
the materials will prob cost you less than $50-60 (estimate cos i'm in the UK)
My install... check it out!
if he doesn't want to go expensive route he has to do a pre-amp, cuase if he replaces factory amp., he will have to replace all the speakers in the car., there are not many available to fit in the car door panels either., the only flow with that vdub, is that if you crank it up to loud speakers collides with the door producing rattle., also if he removes amp., he puts 8 4 channel id tweeters, there is no way he can hook up the treble speakers., which are placed where side view mirrors areOriginally Posted by peecee
like i said if you with crutchfield, tey will give you din housing., which you can convert into screen housing
