    mounting case inside car

    if this has been asked before a link or more search terms other than "case" or "mount" would be helpful.

    So how exactly are people mounting cases in their cars so they don't slide around when they slam on the brakes or something? I've seen the VoomPC case has screw holes, but what do most people do?
    I've seen projects where its stuffed into the glove compartment (ugly) as well as people modding the interior of the car to fit a case. However, I'm not really looking to modify the interior too much. (I'm not an expert at this type of stuff nor do I wish to spend the time/cash to do anything too drastic.)

    I noticed the Travela cases claim to be able to fit into a DIN or double DIN, but do they come with "mounts" (or whatever the term is) to hold them in place? The pictures that I've seen would make it appear otherwise.

    Thanks!

    Some people mount them to the floor or wall of their trunk. Other people mount them to their subwoofer box. I have no idea why they mount it to their sub. I don't think it would be too safe for the pc with all the vibrating. If I had a pc to mount in my car, I'd go for the mount on the side of the trunk or behind the dash. I am doing a laptop install in my car, though. Here is an example of a total in dash install.

    Hope this helps!

    Those little Travlas don't usually fit flush, as they're a bit too long so it would probably stick out of your dash a little.

    I am using some angle brackets and zip ties. It's a slim pc case, and the brackets hold the case from going anywhere, and the zip ties are there to keep things from moving in extreme stop situations.

    Since mine is going to be under the seat, mounted with other components, I'm going to cut a piece of MDF to fit, and use a router (think wooodworking here, ya damn geeks!) to cut a recessed well for the Shuttle case to fit into. Figure a 1/4" well shouldn't be to difficult on a 1/2" piece of MDF.
    Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

    Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

    Mdf?

    Also, does anyone know why the forum keeps lowercasing the 'd' and 'f' when I type all 3 letters in uppercase, or how to fix this?

    MDF = Medium Density Fibreboard

    Kinda like plywood, except it's pressed/glued wood fibers

    If your entire post is in caps it'll change the case. If you make a post with something in caps and include some lower case letters somewhere it'll leave the CAPS in CAPS. Anti-AOL-shouting technology, I suppose.
