    hub/carputer distance

    Hello All,
I am just getting started in mocking up my carputer and I was wondering if anyone could tell me something about Firewire/USB hubs.

I am plannig on having my system (laptop) in the boot of my car and running a firewire cable(6 pin) up to the front where I would connect my touch screen / ipod / dvd-drive to a hub. My question is: Is this too far to run a firewire cable (about 15' of cable) and will the hub be able to draw the necessary power or should I get a powered hub?

thanks for any info you can give.

if powering the DVD drive and/or charging your ipod then get a powered hub.

    thanks for the response

    1. It seems max firewire length is 4.5m (might be enough)
    2. I will be powering my dvd-drive and the occasional ipod so I guess I will be going with a powered hub.
