xbox carputer

My question is can I use an upgraded Xbox as a carputer. I just want to use GPS and play dvd and games on it.

You can do anything you want. Can the xbox function as a home computer? Can you plug a gps unit into it at home and get a signal and run gps software on it? Power shouldn't be an issue if you want to just run an inverter. Integrating the shutdown controller part would definitely involve

no quality gps program avail on the xbox (even thru linux i believe)

well, something that may be worth toying with, which I have on the cards and was previously mentioned in a post here somewhere, is to use a palm emulator (must be one for linux) and use tomtom palm edition. I'm trying this on a windows emulator soon.

I heard xbox can only run win 95, can it handle linux? are you sayin that i can use gps sama??

xbox will run linux, albeit fairly slow imho. never heard of it running win95.

Cannot go wireless.
Palm emulator would be WAY to slow on the xbox 733mhz processor with a whopping 64MB's of ram.

Alright, I have an old HP computer. Can I upgrade that and use it as a shell its pretty big. Will it heat soak?

IMHO any PC would be better than running an xbox. 64MB non-upgradable is a dagger if you plan on running any "computer" programs thru linux. I have a modded xbox with xebian linux on it. it takes a good 3 mins just to LOAD firefox.
