Angry Frustrated to the point of giving up...

Ok. Here's my story. In September, I began installing my in-car computer with hopes of having it finished by the end of October (yeah right.) Anyway, I finally do get installed a few hundred hours later (December.) Right as I'm putting my Lilliput back into the car, I crack the touch panel. OK, no big deal, I'll just order another one. I take my Jeep on a 20 hour road trip (with no touchscreen.) The computer does excellent. Everything is great - gps, music, dvd, video, everything. I get back home, and am forced to remove my monitor for some reason. In the process, I break my ribbon cable. I give digitalww a call and order a new touch panel and ribbon cable. 2 months later, they finally arrive. Today, I attempted to install these. The computer boots up fine (on another monitor, just testing it.) I begin to get my monitor installed. The ribbon cable is being a *****, like always. On my 10th try or so, the computer refuses to turn on, for no apparent reason.

I just had to express my frustration with car computers. I am contemplating putting a head-unit back in. I don't know. I am just too ****ed off at it to do anything right now. I'm considering putting my head-unit back in until this summer at least when I have more time to work on it. I hate to abandon my computer forever, just because of the time I've spent on it. Well over 200 hours, i would say. I have what seems like miles of wire ran, my dash fabricated to fit my Lilliput. Anyway, I am just trying to decide what to do and had to tell you all about it.

yeah, these things can be a pain sometimes. I have been in ur position too, but I just keep in mind that every issue I have is one less issue that can happen again. Once all teh kinks are worked out they are worth it.

yeah when you solve problems it is so worth it.
if you give up you'll be thinking 'wish i'd sorted it while it was in here then i'd a have a kick-*** carPC to listen to tunes on!'

I hate to say this, but these problems you list with the Lilliput have been known issues for a long time, so there's something that could have been prevented or at least could have been known in advance.

Remember, it's a computer, it's not going to function like a HU, not as flawlesly and not as easy to install, if you aren't willing to put up with that, then at this point, a carPC might not be for you.

I'd stick with it, sit back and look at it with new eyes and a fresh approach. IMO, a CarPC is MUCH MUCH MUCH more rewarding than any regular car audio set-up by far. But for some people, my fiance included, they just can't get used to it and they aren't willing to put up with it, carPCs are NOT for them.

Totally agree, the weak point of carputers right now are the screens. They just don't seem to have the quality necessary to function in a carputer enviroment with stability and reliability. The other components seem to work just fine, but you have to treat the screen like it's an egg, and pray it does not break.

I should have purchased a Xenarc, lilliputs are a pain in the ***. But there are no Xenarc 1 din motorized LCD's which I need in my set up.

Thanks for the support. I think I may go out and work on it a bit this afternoon. I don't know what the problem with the computer was, but when I drove to the bank the other day, the computer booted right up with the car, so I don't know. It seems to have suddenly started working again. I am overjoyed, I hope it continues to work. I think my monitor is an issue that can be resolved. I plan to sit down with it tonight in the house and try everything I can think of. Perhaps I blew one of those fuses or something. I think it's mostly just trial and error. Anyway, thanks again
