Hello/Introduction

I came across this site about a month ago and decided it's finally time to post. I wanted to thank everyone for the great posts that I've been reading, I have gained a lot of valuable information.

I'm going to hopefully start fiberglassing a sub enclosure in the trunk soon, it's been in the 20s this week so I'm waiting for it to warm up.

I was given an old Gateway Solo today and decided to use that as my first Carputer. I have to buy a screen and a few other things so I decided this was a cheaper way to start. Luckily I came across gateways docking station page for the solos and searched ebay and found:

Yeah, this hobby sucks you in and doesnt let you out. Its like finding another universe that you know nothing, or very little, about. But its the cool factor, and the fact that few people have car computers, that keeps you going. If everyone had a car computer, then i dont think I would be doing this. I have my test station set up @ home and when people see it its like:eek: "Whoa...That is sweet!" and thats just when im controling my computer through touchscreen. They'll be blown away when its in the car:rolleyes:

:whs: exactly my thoughts. I love the ultra-cool geek factor, mixed in with some definite technical skiils.

GOOD IDEA! Fiberglassing in anything less than 60 can be a royal pita!

As for not many people having them, dono about that...just look at the number of members on this board, and this (by far) isn't the only board out there for this hobby...:)

By not that many people having car computers, i meant its not as common as say...flip down screens or big wheels. Touch screen nav is like the new hype to a lot of people, so when they see computer its like "Damn!". I like carputers because its not something you just throw in the car. It requires time to set it up properly and not something you go run to car stereo one or taz to get.:rolleyes:

again, they are more common than you think!

lots of plug and play solutions out there...hell this site even sells one, and many high end car audio stores are selling similar products.

not trying to send ya down, I encourage DIY installs, just don't be surprised when you learn that they aren't as uncommon as you think!
