Cpu is on the mobo, no chance of that thing going anywhere. I'm sure there are tons of people who have absolutely no shock absorbing at all and things work fine.

i'm running my mobo behind a interior body pannel not in a case with only the CPU fan, and I've never run into any issues with heat. I'm in Texas as well, have had a carPC in for about 3 years.

My mobo is also mounted directly to a piece of MDF without any shock absorbing, and have yet to have a single issue.

you can see pics on how my computer is mounted in my sig, also, since you're in Texas, check out http://www.carpctexas.org

nope - mine hasn't had a single issue. I plan on defragging it again pretty soon, so I'll have a better idea of how it's faired over the past year and a half.

Dude, you're asking questions that have been answered or discussed or debated dozens of times over.
Search the forums for HARD DRIVE SHOCK and you'll get lots of threads discussing this very topic.

I have a regular 3.5" Maxtor 120GB HDD in my setup and I drive on Texas roads that are **** quality in a truck with stock suspension. It doesn't miss a beat.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

My only concern would be the subs wiping the harddrive. My carputers never lasted more than a few days when I had them beside my sub. It never damaged the drive.. just files would disappear until windows wouldn't start anymore. I moved it into the interior of the car, and havent had a problem since.

Subs=giant magnents... Harddirives = spinning disks with electrons oriented to represent 0's or 1's. Magnents <3 Electrons... So having a hdd next to a sub slowly(or quickly depending on the distance) corrupts your 0's and 1's...

The vibrations caused by the sub are also very very had to the hard drive. Think of a wheel spinning, everything is good when it is balanced. When you get a wheel off balanced it wobbles and goes crazy. A hard drive has the same concept, the disk head spins in the drive (5400 times a minute for a 5400RPM drive, 7200 times for a 7200RPM drive), think what type of destructions a sub can do to it.

These should not be confused by the variations in road conditions. The road conditions have a far less impact than parking your drive in or right next to a sub

so would the compartment between the drivers set and the passender seat be a better place to put it?
